Hello Get Messy!
Vanessa Perry here, and today I’m sharing with you a simple tip that is one of my favorites and has even inspired me to create an entire journal out of it. Art journaling tip: Use a word or phrase as the focus of your page. Make your phrase visible over the background. You can use any technique to make your phrase visible. Paint it, draw it, type it, use alpha letters. The idea is making your phrase stand out. For my art journaling, I used a faux screen printing technique.
Step 1
I used my die cut machine to cut out the phrase that I had chosen. I used the negative of the cut as the stencil.
Step 2
I placed the stencil over a magazine clipping and used washi tape to keep it in place.
Step 3
I put acrylic paint at the top of the stencil, and used an old gift card to drag the paint across the stencil.
Voila!
I repeated this over different magazine clippings, particularly love using fashion editorials. I like the look of the same phrase across different backgrounds.
Remember, you don’t have to use the same process that I used above. The idea is to making a single word or phrase as the main focus of your page.
Happy creating!
